Day 11 - Prague
With this being our last day in Prague we really only had a couple more things that we could get to. Our plan was to take it slow and ease our way through the final day and final couple things to see.
We started out by looping around to the east around another neighborhood where we had yet to venture. We walked around until we go to a cafe Tyler had read about, it was nestled near a small park off a big street and the cafe takes up a couple rooms. The espresso machine and a couple tables are in the back room with a small section between the front and back where a small table sits with a selection of coffee and the stairs to the bottom floor where the bathrooms are. The front room, where we sat, had a couple tables a couch.
La Boheme Cafe.
After a good stop inside enjoying some coffee and a croissant we made our way out of the cafe and all the way across town to Vyšehrad Castle. The walk to the Castle was around a mile and a half. We had to go under a tall bridge and through a long park. Once we got to the base of the Castle we made our way up and into the grounds.
The gardens inside Vyšehrad Castle.
The Castle is still completely enclosed by its walls and is up on a hill overlooking the surrounding neighborhood and to the north Old Town and Prague Castle. Luckily for us the Castle was practically empty in comparison to the main touristy part of Prague. We were barely surrounded by people, in fact there may have been less than 50 people in the entire complex while we were there.
From over the castle walls and looking out across Prague.
Once inside the castle we made our up to the top of the perimeter walls and along the the interior so that we could look out over Prague. The views were impeccable with only a couple ugly looking clouds. With more rain on the forecast the sky was covered in large vibrant clouds again.
We made our way up to the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul and on into the Vyšehrad Cemetery where we wandered through the rows and up to the Slavin tomb at the back. After the cemetery we made our way further into the Castle and up to the south side where there is a restaurant and a couple vines for wine.
Vyšehrad Cemetery.
That concluded our big southern Prague excursion so we moved outside the Castle and over to the waterfront where we made our way back up to Old Town. Along the way we looked for food but until we made it back to Old Town we didn't find anything we wanted.
We found a couple sandwiches, which we got extra ones of so that we had something for the bus ride tomorrow. Right as we got lunch it began to rain and we made our way back to our apartment to recharge, eat and gather ourselves before heading back out to see the Old-New Synagogue and the Old Jewish Cemetery.
The Old-New Synagogue.
The rain died down a little bit and we went back outside and out to the Synagogues. The entire area surrounding the cemetery and synagogues was packed with people and tour groups. We made our way through the area fast since they closed in a half hour.
The Old Jewish Cemetery.
That concluded the venturing portion of Prague and all we needed to do was get some dinner and pack our bags. Our bus leaves in the morning pretty early so we are getting up before 7, getting all packed up and out to the station early so we don't get stuck in the back by the bathroom.
For now it is bye Prague and hello Berlin.
