Choosing a Name
How did I get to "wayfaring" as the name. Well it really came down to stopping myself from overthinking the meaning and intent behind names.
Wayfaring means, traveling mostly by foot.
Frankly, that sums up what my friends and I have done on our travels. In Italy we started in Rome, staying by the Campo de' Fiori. This centralized us in the city and allowed us to walk up, down and all around Rome. We wound up walking around 11 miles a day, going everywhere. Last year when we were in Spain, that type of travel did not stop, in fact, you could argue that it multiplied. We stayed right off of La Rambla in Barcelona and walked around 13 miles a day.
No matter which city we stayed, we always walked wherever we needed to go. This meant that when we finally figured out what we wanted to do for the day that we would plan a walking route and then see if there was anything worth stopping at or seeing along the way.
It is through this style of city travel that I have really felt like I connected with the cities we stayed in. That even though we didn't see all the tourist spots or all of the local things, that we still got a feel for the city and the people. And regardless, it is just a great way to see a city, to walk through the streets, pass by the buildings, find small markets, spot beautiful ruins or architecture.
Basically it embodies what I love about travel, seeing new things and finding the unexpected. That is what wayfaring means to me and whether I was originally thinking of different names, once I got to wayfaring I knew it was right.
