Home from Scotland
When we got to Heathrow at 5:30 am on our last day we were able to find a booth and talk to someone, unfortunately they informed us that they couldn't help us with our long flight from Frankfurt to San Francisco so we needed to speak with the gate agent in Frankfurt. They also told us that the seat history showed that it was never assigned to us, which made no sense since we had two confirmations showing our tickets with the seats.
I fired off an email to United Airlines (who the flight was booked through) in the hopes that when we landed in Frankfurt that they would have changed our seats, unfortunately that didn't work. What did work was talking to a nice woman at the gate. We were able to convince her to change our seats to bulkhead seats on the top deck of the flight. While this wasn't as good as what we had paid for, they were much better than what we arrived at the airport with.
This trip to Scotland really felt like a preview. While we saw some of the major cities in Scotland and toured across the countryside it really feels like there is unfinished business. I want to see Fort William and Ben Nevis, the Isle of Skye, Islay, Loch Lomond and the north of Scotland. There is just so much to see and it is such a beautiful country that it feels like a month wouldn't even be enough to see everything.
St. Andrews Cathedral.
The big highlight for me had to be driving north from Glasgow. It felt incredible to watch the farms and mountains pass by, and see the small micro-climate changes as we drove to Eilean Donan Castle. We could get fog, rain and sunshine all within five minutes of each other.
I feel very lucky that I got the opportunity to visit Scotland this winter and cannot wait to go back and see it during the summer.
Stirling Castle.
But until then my travel itch is only getting stronger.
