Day 7, 8 & 9 - Inverurie
This trip came about as a way for me to spend Christmas with my Sister and her husbands family. My brother-in-law is from Scotland and every other year my sister heads to Scotland to spend the holidays with his family.
This year I got the privilege of being invited. Seeing as I had never been to Scotland before it seemed like a great excuse to see part of Scotland while out to visit.
We spent the next three days in Inverurie eating incredible meals, sitting by the fire, playing board games, drinking wine and enjoying the company and hospitality of my brother-in-law's family. It was a great couple days.
Aquhorthies Stone Circle.
On Boxing Day we headed out to see the Aquhorthies Stone Circle. It rained on the 24th and 25th but there was a brilliant blue sky on Boxing Day. We stopped at the wrong parking lot for the Stone Circle and only realized it after a short walk so we got back in the car and headed to the right parking lot. The wind was howling and it was biting. We made the short walk to the stone circle past fields filled with sheep. We only spent a short period of time at the circle because the wind was piercing through our layers and everyone was freezing from the outside in. When we got back to the house we drove right into a stew that perfectly warmed us up.
Sheep.
Generally on my travels I do not get the opportunity to spend a couple days just hanging out in one place. I usually find the time to throw in a quite afternoon or evening in but that is about as close to a relaxing couple days that I get on my travels.
It was quite interesting to go from driving through the Scottish countryside and running around Glasgow in a day to spending three days by the fire before kicking back in gear to finish off the last two days in Scotland.
I think the hectic nature of travel before arriving in Inverurie made the next couple days even more relaxing. Being able to unwind, look back on the past couple days of travel and know that we would be leaving shortly made it all the more enjoyable. I didn't want our time in Inverurie to end and it was bittersweet to leave everyone after all the fun we had and the incredible hospitality but it did feel good to venture out and see Scotland again before having to head back to the States.
