Day 10 - Chiang Mai

The original plan was to take a trekking trip south and hike to the summit of Doi Inthanon however because we weren't all healthy we decided it was best to skip it. That meant we needed to plan out a new day. Seeing as we weren't at 100% we decided it best to take it easy.

We began by taking it easy in the morning and deciding on getting coffee and some snacks before tackling anything for the day.

We stopped at Library Coffee for a mocha and then at Guu Fusion Rotti for some rotti. Rotti is like crepes but folded in on themselves. They have savory and sweet rotti. Seeing as we were trying them for the first time we decided on a chocolate rotti and an egg rotti. The egg one was excellent and would be something I could normally.

On the way back to the condo we stopped by a bookstore that was just next door to the rotti place. We looked through the various books in Thai and collections of books in English.

We made it back at our condo so that we could gather our things before heading off to lunch. We decided to check out SP Chicken in Old Town. Apparently, the whole roasted chickens served at SP Chicken are loved by the head chef at Pok Pok.

From SP Chicken we grabbed a songtaew, a red taxi in truck form, to Wat Umong at the base of the mountain. When we arrived at the temple our songtaew driver asked if we wanted him to stay and wait for us to be finished. It took a little time since he spoke very little English and we speak zero Thai but we eventually understood each other. He was concerned since it had begun sprinkling on the drive over, or at least saw that as an excuse for a couple extra bucks for sticking around.

We headed off into the temple grounds and walked around eventually finding our way into a set of caverns beneath the grounds. Inside there were small tunnels with Buddhas and other places to pray. We wandered through and were coming to the exit of the caverns when it began to pour. The rain had only threatened before we arrived at the temple but it finally decided to rain.

We walked around a short bit more looking at different statues before heading to our awaiting songtaew.

The plan had been to head to Wat Suan Dok and then head back to our condo to relax, pack and get ready for our flight to Hanoi the next day. However, with the rain we decided that it was best to head back to the condo since we did not know when it would stop raining.

We walked back from our drop off spot in the rain and settled in to our apartment where we fianlly go the tv to work. We sat around for a couple hours watching various bad American movies and gathering our things.

Eventually we went outside and the sun had just set beneath the clouds.
